The event takes about three hours, two hours of which is the demonstration event.

Iditarod Days Skijor Fun Run

February 21, 1010
Seward, Alaska

sponsored by the Seward Nordic Ski Club
and Seward Iditarod Trail Blazers

This five mile fun run will be held at Bear Lake – easy terrain and great viewing. Race will simulate a mail run to commemorate The Iditarod – all racers will have to pick up mail at designated parts of the course and deliver to the finish line.  Mass (Le mans) or staggered start to be determined by number of entrants.  Registration at 11:30 race day. Race starts at noon.  Fee is 10.00 for non- SNSC members; free for  Trail User and Trail Meister Members.  Prizes for finishers.  Skijor beginners welcome as long as dogs are healthy, have current vaccinations and are under hand control at all times – NO LOOSE DOGS.  Be prepared to clean up after your dog.   For more information and registration contact Dan or Madelyn Walker 224-3848 or sixmilebb@alaska.com . Early registration encouraged so you can familiarize yourself with trail protocol and tips for mass start to ensure a safe, fun run. Plans right now are for one dog only, but we may add a two dog class or a pulk race.  Stay posted.

Please use public access parking area on Old Sawmill Road. (There will be signs).  Just take the Bear Lake turnoff, about 7 miles north of Seward and drive about 1.5 miles till you see Old Sawmill Rd and turn left.

This event is being held in commemoration of the Iditarod Historic Trail Centennial Celebration.  There will be activities through out the weekend including the Mayor’s Cup Sled Dog Race starting noon, Saturday, February 20 at Bear Lake followed by an evening program Saturday night on the history of the Iditarod and Seward’s place along the historic tail.  Indoor/outdoor fun for all – come out and cheer on your favorite musher or skijorer!  Spectators are asked to use parking along Bear Lake Road so that Mushers trucks can be parked in the public access area.
