The Willow Carnival Skijor Race starts on Willow Lake below the Community Center
shortly after 11 AM and finishes around 12 noon to 12:30 PM.
The Anchorage Skijor Club will conduct registration inside the Community Center
beginning at 10 AM and ending at 11 AM with the race talk.
The race features a LeManns Mass start where skiers tethered to their dogs line
up behind a line 50 yards behind a line where skis and poles are placed on the snow.
The Race Marshall signals the start and skiers and dogs run up to ski equipment,
stop, put on ski equipment, and then ski off across the lake. This staggers the
start, and the first team in wins.
There will be 5-mile and 11- mile courses with 1-dog and 2-dog classes. Skiers need
to watch for the cutoff sign part way through the race.
Men and women compete against each other.

Five dollars from each participant goes to Willow for setting and marking the course
(which basically covers their fuel costs plus a little. Steve Charles of Willow
has been grooming the trails, and he invites people to ski, skijor, mush, or otherwise
enjoy them. For information on trail conditions, call Steve at (907) 495-6368.
Food and other items will be available at the carnival in the Willow Community Center.
Join us for some good fun!
